In 2020, the SEBI (Portfolio Managers) Regulations 1993 was replaced with the new SEBI (Portfolio Managers) Regulations, 2020.
PMS has a wider scope as compared to the Investment Advisers. It is typically suited for HNI clients where the service providers want to manage the funds with custom strategies and also charge on a profit sharing basis.
But, as they say, with great power comes great responsibility. Similarly, with the advantages of wider scope comes more responsibility of reporting and compliance – to SEBI as well as clients.
